IMPORTING ALS MAPS !

Postby blackwolf23 » Wed 2 Nov 2016 19:19

DISCLAIMER: I have nothing to with this I am only sharing the work done by integ3r_p0sitron from reddit (https://www.reddit.com/user/integ3r_p0sitron).

This might be completely fake and scam in which case I am not responsible and will probably cry myself to sleep for a week...

THE STORY: https://www.reddit.com/r/wargame/comments/5akfz1/eugen_pls_porting_alb_maps_is_possible_screenshots/

Basically the guy imported ALB maps into Red dragon. They are about 90% done . Done as in most of it works , the textures look bad compared to the quality of Red dragon but that is just eye candy in my opinion. The issues are in the rivers and objects.. The rivers are passable to amphibious units only on some areas that arent " zoned as impassable" and some of the textures for building and similar dont load in properly....

I think that this addition to re dragon could really bring a huge spark to this game and please the very dedicated community
Whats your opinion on the subject ? Also please support this so Madmat and the rest can see this ... Once again credits (or blame goes to integ3r_p0sitron

I would love to be wrong but I suspect this won't be coming to the stock game, the quality of the art assets in ALB is a good bit different from WRD (to be expected with games of different ages). Would still be a neat mod, more maps are always welcome.

If there is a way to just use RD building models and a digital sheet of water with a nice reflection then everything will be fine. We know that zones and urban sectors can be redrawn with ease. Just need the building models to make stuff look purdy I guess.

Also int has a thread in the mod forum.

Yeah but they could just replace the textures with the ones in red dragon and switch the building out with the ones in red dragon and that about it

I could not care less if the textures are not as good etc.
Red dragon desperately needs all the ALB ,maps and all maps sizes unlocked for any number of players !
neither of these things are game breaking and would breath so much life back in.
The freedom to tweak in game settings and selection is the core of the game.
People that play it like tweaking decks and tactics its why they bought the game !.
Players will return and new players will buy if they implement a bit of maintenance and content !!
The game ALB was and still is a better game, and a big part of that is its maps.
Another is the clear differentiation between terrain and foliage besides moody greys and greens just being more attractive to look at than yellow sandy desert
Its a subjective thing many people say WG RD is better but just tossing in features does not make a better game.
If you added a few new chess piece,s to the game of Chess,
then changed the checkerboard,s colour to light and medium grey
then made it smaller
so it becomes pointless to use half of the existing pieces but charge for the new ones
then called it Chess 2 ?
is it better ?...nope
Also regardless of opinion on this
I think Eugen are crazy with how they bring out a game then kill it with an almost identical game Shortly afterwards splitting both community and profits.
I will happily come over to the studio work for free and dam well direct them on how to create a good war game lol

IMPORTING ALS MAPS

Postby bennieSib » Fri 26 Apr 2019 16:00

In the tutorial it mentions this: What is going to be covered in this tutorial is how to add a custom object to a BF1942 map that already exists, not how to create one from scratch.
Would it still work or would another tutorial be required?
