Major new changes include:

1) A complete overhaul of about 150 aircraft in the game. They are now balanced by price and availability.

2) Spaags have been reworked to have a high chance of forcing enemy jets to evac, acting as a actual deterrent while the missile aa does the killing. A well placed spaag can block enemy sead/rocket missions from hitting your missile AA.

3) infantry veterancy damage modifier removed. No more SAS one-shotting jets, no more spetsnaz wiping out single squads. The infantry field just got a lot more even

4) A new minimum autonomy has been put in place. Many of the vehicles were not being used due to having 100km or so autonomy. New minimun autonomy ensures all vehicles have atleast 300km range.

Changelog: for 2.0

Rather than wait for Eugen to fix some of the percieved problems we have started this project with a goal to make the tank selection more authentic, balanced as well as diverse in comparison to the current tank selection and statistics.

What this means is that we've kept Eugen's original tank structure intact but made slight changes mostly in unit pricings, accuracy values as well as availabilities. What we feel like is that the cold war gone hot in the early 90's should be fought more with leopard 2's, t80's and abramses instead of t34's, recoilless rifles and centurions. Also there should not be any 2 tanks with equal pricetags but one having better stats in the game anymore. Hopefully with this line of thinking we will be able to bring more character into the game as well as people's playstyles. So far this modification only touches the tank tab but with enough interest and positive feedback can certainly be made cover the other parts of the armory as well.

A prime reason for most tanks being unattractive was identified as either the pricetag or the absurdly low accuracy or in some cases both. When compared, things like a 50's North Korean tank destroyer having clear accuracy advantage over a Russian t80bv made in '85 were found. Thus to make tanks appear better, most armor are now more clearly attractive by gaining a more realistic accuracy as well as the tanks being now categorized in several distinct brackets;

The third world dictator's shopping list;
Obsolete and Limited in availability but balanced through the cheapest price. You will be able to use them but not rely on them without significant deckspace investment due to roughly halved availability from base RD values (32 -> 16)

Light tanks;
Now sporting more accuracy and range than in vanilla RD but overall worse performance compared to more expensive options, counterbalanced by being slightly more expensive than the dictator's selection of obsolete tanks but in larger availabilities.

Medium tanks:
Sporting either high armor values or high weapons values but never both. These tanks are now able to fill a single role clearly but offset by the inability to have both heavy armor and weaponry compared to the heavier cousins

Heavy tanks and ultraheavies:
The base of the armored units with heavy armor and weapons. Cheap enough to be fielded rather liberally but shadowed by the flagships of the battlefield that make up the m1a2, t72bu, 2a5 and the like which still retain their low availability.

As Said earlier, with enough positive interest and/or feedback, we will begin changing other aspects of the wargame (aircraft, infantry) Towards more balanced as well as authentic form with minimal changes to the Eugen's layout as possible.

I Invite everyone to download the mod and adding me (Sleksa) and Daywalker so we can begin with playtests and seeing whether these changes have the desired effect upon gameplay.

Some groundrules:

1) Do not start any post with 'our tank x needs to be better than their tank y' - national bias is not going to be a factor for this modification.
2) Attach replays. Seeing the whole situation makes it easier to estimate whether the situation in game was due to unit's power or the decisionmaking of the player using it.

What we want to do is to change the current state of the centurion/t34 way of tank warfare and you can directly help us by attaching replays and trying to abuse any flaws in our structure.

I have a suggestion:
If possible why dont you double both the income and unit prices?
That way you will be able to balance cheap units better.
How can anyone play to a faction's strength if the major flavour of that faction is overpriced units in every category?

If they're trying to use it as a proof of concept for a balance concept, they really really probably don't want to do that. That'll make it more work to tell the effect of their changes at a glance.

Interesting idea.

I think engine-wise unitcosts which aren`t dividable by 5 wouldn`t be a problem(100% guessing here, but pretty sure). I think I`d have an easier time adjusting to an APC which costs 12 points for examle, then everything twice as much, so I`d prefer that.

But also this.
Babysteps, the easier stuff first, the mess created my 5 point- steps for units cheaper then 15 points might be adressed in a later version.

Unit costs above 0 work fine. We unfortunately can't have free units, that is the only limitation.

Looks interesting. I wonder if Eugen will take a similar direction. Do you plan on doing a similar sweep through the Vehicle section?

+1

I totally agree that modern tanks would have dominated over old cheap tanks in the 90ies. T34 would have played a role between third world countries, but not against any modern nation.

Such a mod has huge impact on the meta game. Cheap spams would be much harder to play.

How come the T-34 took a huge availability hit?
