Would anyone be interested in making their own factions?

Postby Mikeboy » Tue 8 Jul 2014 01:56

So here's something I've been contemplating; a mod that adds 17 factions based on players choices.

Basically the way it would work is each person would first have to work their way through a technology tree, they would then use that technology to create the stats for a certain number of units (say 30 each), the faction is then modded into the game using their stats (with price and availability set based on them of course)

Would anyone be interested in being involved in such a project?

As a proof of concept here's a tech tree I created for Tanks/IFVs.

And 4 units made from them:

I'm incredibly interested, but my skills on modding Wargame are only so-so right now. I'm busy trying to get better but I'll keep an eye on this.

I am heck confused. So this means that units will have different stats for different people? You are asking for some serious desync there.

No. One mod, but the factions are sent in by different people to be modded.

This sounds very cool. But I have alot of questions: What kind of factions would you add then (would they be real or fictional)? And in what timeframe would it be set? And how would this all work? I make a unit list with the proposed stats and you add them in your mod?

Sounds awesome, I'm up for it. :D
How much of this is done on our end, and how would the tech trees work though?

Fictional I guess. It's up to whoever's faction it is.

Timeframe is about the same as RD, of course how you spend your tech points determines how technologically advanced you are in each particular area.

Yes, I'd make the list of techs/components. You'd choose how to spend your tech points. Then you'd use what you've unlocked to make your unit list and unit stats. I'd implement that and balance with price and availability.

So you're asking if having Fallschrimjager '90, Spetznaz, Uldoys, I-HAWK PIP III's, Ceasars, North Korean T-72's, Chinese OP ATGM's, and Tomcats all in the same deck is a good idea?

I gotta say, I slightly interested...

Well the idea of the tech tree is to avoid that. Sure you can invest everything in super amazing tanks. But then you can't afford and powerful AA, planes etc.

Plus costs and availability still apply.

I'm intrested in that but i'm afraid that I have less moding skills than none :(

Nevertheless I always wanted an option to create custom nation
