Bombs & Shells Realism FX Mod

Hi all, this small mod simply removes the projectile trails from bombs and shells.

I think they are unnecessary and the game looks better without them.

I brought up the idea before release but Madmat shot me down, so I finally downloaded the modding suite and had a go myself.

MRLS and other rockets still have smoke trails.

Muzzle flash and sound effects have been left untouched.

Note: being hit with arty is now more scary for you and your opponent!

Using this mod you will just hear the "whoosh" before the impacts devastate their targets. :D

No more following back the trails to betray the position of enemy guns... :P

No more studying the trajectory of the trails and moving your units before they are hit... :P

Install instructions for those new to WRD modding:

Replace the NDF_Win.dat file found in the location below with the one you have just downloaded.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wargame Red Dragon\Data\WARGAME\PC\430000366

Launch the game as normal. Keep a copy of the original file and simply copy it over the mod version to get rid of the mod if you do not like it.

Unfortunately, I don't think many people will get this mod because the trails help them in-game. But might I ask how you did this so I can maybe do the same in my own mods?

I'm not worried :D

I made it as a personal mod then thought to upload it here for others who might like it.

You have to alter instances from gamefx inside TSimultaneousActionForActionCallTemplate.

As for mulitplayer, sorry I don't play it and don't know what the rules/technical limitations are for mods.

It looks real but destroys the counter arty capability of players because trails of shells helps to find the arty of opponent between two salvos.

Which is actually quite realistic because you at least need a Radar to spot arty on distance IRL.

I know....
...but as long as in WG in not available such an equipmens especially with feature that fire/launch locations are not marked with uncertainity and for longer time. Curently if you can't see at the moment at launch you have no idea where came the arty/rocket arty attack...
