Okay, so I'm trying to make the UH-1C technically be an airplane. (Sorry, US bias).

Try 1: Heli stuck to ground, too slow.
Increase altitude and speed.

Try 2: It looks great when firing! However, rotors don't move, and it still has plane physics.
Dang, they don't have the same movement classes. The plane one actually looks pretty complex. It looks like it will have to be trial and error.

Try 3: Well, I did something wrong. It keeps flipping upside down. Pretty comical actually.
Will need to adjust weight I think.

Try 4: Still flips. Not as fast though...
Let's increase weight.

Try 5: Nope, still flips.
Fudge it, gonna give it Yak-38 flight characteristics.

Try 6: Good, now turn radius is too big.
Reduced it.

Try 7: Dang, flies into the ground when turning.
Reduce weight, fly higher.

Try 8: Whoops, forgot to edit weight.
Changed it from 8 to 2.

Try 9: Keeps wobbling, probably too light.
Changed weight from 2 to 5.

Try 10: Beautiful to see them fire, but not fly. Frequently go upside-down and pull amazing feats for a helicopter.
Edited G-forces again.

Try 11: Great! Still a little bit wobbly but good enough.
Let's get the rotor to spin now...

Try 12: Can't get rotor to spin. Oh well...

And what about ATGM usage...? Helos currently can use rockets durung moving...

Final report: I don't really like this idea, for a number of reasons both technical and conceptual.

I. How would the helicopters reload?
___A. They Evac and reload in the "airport".
______1. Counted as planes, have a 9-unit limit
______2. Can't make rotors spin, at least for now
___B. They land near supplies
______1. What's the advantage over regular helicopters?
II. How would we force helicopters to strafe?
___A. Mod the unit ai
______1. Have no idea how to make this happen, especially to code in a new concept
___B. Decrease deceleration drastically so it has to keep moving
______1. Landing will be a nightmare. Same thing with trying to keep it out of the enemy's AA net
___C. Make is so that rockets can only fire at a upwards angle, forcing the helicopter to move forward to fire.
______1. IIRC, we can mod horizontal rotation, but no vertical rotation? Also, physics may not work that way. (Look at all light transport helicopters pitching to a 90 degree angle to slow down fast and land.)
III. If we can't force helicopters to strafe, how to give players an incentive to order strafing?
___A. Make the stabilizer on each unit much higher than regular accuracy.
______1. Not logical
___B. Make AA less accurate firing at a moving target rather than stationary.
______1. I very much doubt it's possible
IV. Which choppers will get this new behavior?
___A. All choppers with weapons
______1. Including missile-only ones? (AH-64D, Ka-52) Not realistic.
_________a. All that are not missile only.
____________-. ATGM's guided by the helicopter are meant to be long-ranged and accurate, not strafe


If someone can figure out another way, I'll be glad to hear it.
