I don't mind single infantries method very much, but having an option like this is going to become handy nonetheless.
So why not have it in the game?

On topic of infantry squads, I personally am not looking for anything crazy like CoH/MoW's level of squad management - just something like Command & Conquer 3's squads would be nice ;).

You could also do neat balancing with squad systems for units like the marine, which are woefully underused in the mid to late game - make them a 4 man squad or something! At least let them be viable in the later game as a meatshield of sorts.

Or maybe even introduce some sort of antitank upgrade for marines to use in DEFCON 2?

Any form of squad system is better than none at all, so yeah support the idea!!!

@trineroks
Think you are confusing between the mechanics, the custom squad system here works NOTHING like in COH and MOW.

There's no retreating option for inf, and not much point in reinforcing existing squad to the point of COH, since every
single inf cost exact the same here, unlike COH where reinforced soldiers are cheaper than new ones. In here, you can
just form new squads which is easy and simple, so it's different from COH, you also can't unform squads.

In MOW, there's no system to locking infantries into squads, you can select a max of 10 infantries (which is quite stupid)
at any one time and that's about it. But here you can select as much infantry and custom made squads as possible, there's
no limit since AOA is much larger scale.

So the system is completely different from MOW as well, don't know where u got the idea that it will be anything crazy like
MOW level of management. The point of the custom squad system is to REDUCE the amount of unnecessary management
of single infantries, which the idea is very nice in achieve that. ;)

think Dawn of Wars heavy weapons system would match quite well with a squad system here... granted, we have to see how Cartel and Chimera pan out with infantry, but i wouldnt mind Stinger/Javelin being consolidated into Marine upgrades

Sounds like OP wants a repeat build button and auto assignment of a structures units to a control group. That would be nice and the previous has worked well in a few games.

The rest of the thread is begging for another games inferior squad system *even though this game doesn't have any mechanics in place to make squad based units deeper than singles. Having a clump of models doesn't add anything to game play. If anything it can actually hurt game play.

If players want a reason to have a clump of units gain some sort of superiority then they should be asking for a passive bonus of some sort when units are grouped.

The way I see it, people are asking for an option to create a custom "group" of people, like your "clump" but with each infantry unit still separate. For example, if someone wants to, they could take 3 marines, 2 javelins, and a stinger (6 infantry), and group them together. This would allow the player to select all 6 of these units with one click, and move them all as one unit. However, they are still separate units, so for example, moving this group into a bank would still fill all 6 slots. The bank would now have 3 marines, 2 javelins, and a stinger inside of it.

It's similar to assigning them to a control group, like using CTRL + 1 to assign them to group 1, but with a potentially infinite amount of these groups, instead of just 10.

I totally think this is an awesome idea.

@triumph

What the OP wants is stated very clearly in the first post thank you, a way for custom selections to be built
and repeated for infantries, and also a way for them to be managed as a single entity, which is what the
custom squad system is.

It seems you totally missed the point of custom squads and what the whole thread discussed about. The reason
for custom squad system is to streamline unit selection and management, to reduce amount of pointless and
tedious micro.

Not add anything to change gameplay such as artificial superiority or passive bonus you stated, and certainly not
anything to hurt gameplay. It seems you totally missed the point of the whole thread, please reread cindy's post
thank you.

The point is to add extra options for those who wish which can improve the gameplay for THEM by removing some
frustrations associated with single infantries. So you can still stick with your inferior single infantries with this system
if you wish.

Also it's rude to call people hoping to give suggestive feedbacks to try improving the game "begging", if so the whole
beta feedback sections can be stated as "begging forum" according to this logic. Plese don't do it again.

even though this game doesn't have any mechanics in place to make squad based units deeper than singles

No to squads. Theres been so many games where squads have failed. there just blobs that run across the battlefield. I love the single units like cnc zero hour and sc 2. Men of war and coh 2 has squads and Im not a fan.
