Please have another look at the zoom levels

Postby Admiral_Awesome » Fri 17 Jul 2015 11:22

After some skirmishes against the AI to test out the new units and maps, I found myself playing like 99% of the time in satellite view, because you can't see ***** in normal zoom. Its nice to watch the detailed graphics and explosions, but you have little to none strategic overview. I had a look at old screenshots of C&C2, Starcraft and other RTS and I still don't get it why you glue your camera this much to the ground. Its a shame since this game has obviously really nice graphics, but you don't get to see them often. Like hiding a woman behind a burka or some other really bad comparison.

Yeah... It would be enough if they give a bit more zoom out in normal view. I think that there's a gap between max normal zoom and min satellite view. It could be filled with a bit higher normal view.

I agree. As I said elsewhere:

The Satellite view is nice and all and it has its features, but there's no call in a 2015 title to have a level of zoom that's locked to something akin to the zoom you'd have in a 1999 title in 1024*728 resolution.

This is a 3D engine that can support a much wider range of zooms to cater to the player's tastes and ergonomic needs. Use it.

I could of swore in the beta improvements they said they couldnt zoom out that it was impossible so there just going to make the buildings smaller. If they zoomed out 10 percent more it would be perfect. There was a guy in the forums who actually did it. It looked alot better for gameplay.

They didn't say it was impossible.

They said that changing the whole zoom level didn't fit their objective of gameplay.

That's why they changed the scale of buildings.

And honestly as an addendum to what I wrote earlier:

I'm already tired, after 45 minutes of gameplay, of panning and clicking back and forth from my base to a conflict zone and back again - and having to scroll around to find precisely where the enemies are - because I'm not able to operate at a higher zoom to more easily track between these important micro-intensive areas of the game.

It's nearly unmanageable when fighting in just 1 place at once; by the time fights are occurring in multiple places and the player has multiple base networks, it will be totally infeasible and all the complexity that Eugen have tried to work in will be entirely wasted as the player just won't have the time or ability to actually make use of it.

FWIW I would have usually liked a bit more zoom out in Wargame series too.
