[Changes for the good] US bunker needs tuning down

Postby Araton » Sun 20 Dec 2015 16:17

Hi,

I see people really like their US bunkers. They are cheap and put a stop to any early attack. Their HP is superior especially if you get Green Zone. The problem is that they are too easy to spam and abuse to block expansions or shutdown supply routes. They are built super fast and get to their destination even faster. Basically a US player only needs this unit to send any other player on the back foot.

I have the following suggestions to nerf this building and achieve better balance:
  • Add power consumption to them (the way Chimera does). This should limit bunker spamming nicely.
  • Decrease bunker hit points and damage dealt to vehicles and infantry.
  • Remove global defense upgrade and tie bunkers to bases.

Here are a couple of replays that just scream for US bunker nerf:

What do you guys think?

I hope you don't mean for all 3 nerfs to happen. That would be too much.

Maybe just a price and build speed nerfs would be enough. In my opinion all defensive towers build too fast but bunkers are especially a problem due to their lack of power and being able to build anywhere.

Well that would be too extreme I guess. But at least one or two would do the job.

Speaking as an US player for the most part, I totally agree with nerfing US MG nests. Removing the global projection upgrade should be enough. As I see it, that's the "game breaking" feature. At least, that upgrade should only be available at defcon 1 and be more expensive.

Why does the US have the ability to place MG nests everywhere anyway? It is just overpowered. Remove this upgrade please, that should do the trick.
If you wonder if I know what I am talking about. Got more than 1,000 games and most XP: http://actofaggression-replaytool.com/r ... layers.php

If you want to add power consumption to MG nests, think about the consequences: To defeat a US player you would only need to destroy the very very weak power plants (solar panels) and you would get the defences down. I strongly suggest not to do this.

Just remove the defence projection upgrade and see what happens.

-Bunker price increase.
-Global range upgrade change to increase build radius range.

Contrariwise, the MGNEST needs a boost.

Even if the Global range upgrade maybe needs to be removed, the MGNEST needs a big boost to its damage and / or its resistance against tanks.

Not from my experience or from people who have been around for long and are very experienced.
A single MG nest should never be powerful enough to take out multiple tanks.

The US bunkers are not too weak. You are just doomed if you rely on stationary defences, that is your problem. The US army got very strong units to counter mid and late game attacks, no need for a bunker buff.
