[Changes for the good] Jets need tuning down

Postby Araton » Mon 21 Dec 2015 11:45

Hi there,

Here's another topic about annoying trends and suggestions on how they should removed from the game.

As you may know Jet conga lines are cheesy and OP in every matchup and game type. Lines of forwarded Stingers/Griches, Anti Super weapons with range upgrades and dedicated AA units and buildings are simply outgunned by these units. I have the following suggestions to tune these units down a bit:

  • Limit the number of fighters that have air to ground missiles and Anti-Air capabilities to 1 or 2 per air control tower (PAK-F and F35B). The Cartel X-32 is not part of this group, since that unit only has two Air to ground missiles and is pathetic in general compared to the PAK-FA and F35. It also doesn't shoot air units.
  • Make fighter/bombers drop 2 pilots (POWs) at a minimum when shut down. Seriously, why is this not in the game already?
  • Reduce Air to ground missile damage to buildings. These units should not be able to level bases that easily.

What do you guys think?

But the PAK-FA, F-35 and X-32 are all single-seat, as are most planes in game (only the Valkyrie and B-2 spring to mind as breaking this rule)
Maybe the B-2 and XB-70 should drop more than 1 POW, but 2 guys ejecting out of a single seater? No thanks
The only (probably) sane player to take a card of Akulas voluntarily..... UNTIL RED DRAGON!

Just because there is one seat it does not mean there is only one POW. Maybe the other guy was paddling in the back to provide power to the plane?

Balance and non-frustrating gameplay over realism please.

+1 dropping POWs
At least each shot down jet should drop one, does each? (didn't we have such a thread?)

+1 for buffs, -1 for nerfs

Even without an animation I agree. Without PoW planes are low risk throw away units. And late game USA f35 trains out can out super weapons. A ground attack will leave pow both players must struggle contain and capture the pilots too get ahead in the trade or make up for the loss.

Planes are exceptions and why they feel like cheese. I really like the suggestions purposed. A chance too drop pow even if it's not two or from every plane. Would be a good change, helicopters do it. If they didn't they would be easier to throw away. Much like the metal storm swarms.

I would suggest the following.

-Limit F-35 and PAK-FA alternate missile to 2 . Eugen stated that they couldn't do this but this is really one of the root problems that they need to fix directly.
-CIWS stance for units that requires the same autocannon to hit missiles. You must have a choice whether you want your units to kill or shoot down missiles. F-35s get away easily because of this. This should apply to Pantsirs, Chimera Turrets, Otomatics, ShadowHawks and etc.
-100% POWs for aircrafts even at least 1 per aircraft. It is kinda stupid that you don't risk having POWs when sending an air mass of F-35s directly to the enemy base.

The only problem now left is how to stop congo lining.

The whole implementation of planes sucks.

That would be a mistake since jets shoot buildings all the time and you got no real chance to micro them otherwise. They also like to fire 4 rockets on one tank which would be dead with one rocket. Why do jets shoot buildings? It is so broken right now.
Second very very annoying thing is that you cannot put jets on hold fire. Some might say: Oh yes you can. But the thing is that as soon as they get uncloaked, they fire anyway....on a building and just wasting rockets. It sucks. Jets should be a tool of precision! Right now they are a tool for spammers.
The biggest issue with countering jets is the overkill in this game. All anti-air units just shoot the first jet. This is frustrating to say the least. Especially when combined with the countermeasure upgrade.

That's really more of the game's AI targeting problem and firing stance problem.
