Why do units, even when specifically giving an order, shoot the nearest building first and then the nearest units second? Impossible to micro anything. This is driving me insane. Imagine counterstrike having these mechanics, aiming for a headshot and shooting your teammate in the back...

A big cooler if you try to snipe the enemy unit which is dealing most damage to you (artillery). In an RTS game, the player has to be in control of what the units are doing. It is very annoying and has been an issue since day one...

I think this issue is mainly caused by target priorities.

First units should prioritize units instead of buildings, additionally when you right click something a unit should move towards its target and shoot only the target that was right clicked.

Since most units have fire on the move in this game, when you right click they generally waste their shot randomly on anything nearby, even NLOS-Cannons can waste their shots because even they fire on the move(i know its weird), or himars, or Cartel koalitsia, scorpios, spectre tanks, the list goes on.

And all of this could be solved with just simple unit stances, A normal Combat stance, where units prioritize units, an aggressive stance where they shoot anything hostile, or a hold ground stance for defensive positions with actual units instead of defenses.

A thing that has been a prominent feature in most RTS's to date. Sometimes you just gotta let the originality out of the window, and embrace stuff that works, and is in most of these games for a reason... #nopressure

as long you can try to use "hold fire" for at least small unit blobs

If Hold Fire would actually work but if your units gets attacked you lose the stance and attack...

Add Offensive-, Defensive- and an Hold Fire stance so that you can switch between those and that units do not lose it.

Seems a redundant issue, with almost any type of unit. Threat priorisation and the way units execute attack orders could use some tweaks.
That's the saddest part of the story. I was getting used to think, after nearly three decades of its existence, that the word "Strategy" was the main cornerstone of the RTS genre and golden age.

Comanche doesn't know what you are talking about.
Damn, I want to send a group of these helos to a suicide mission but can't perform it because once detected and attack, they get out of Hold fire and attack the first target they're facing.
And if some of them manage to reach the objective point without being hurt, AS THEY ARE FACING THE NEAREST TARGET WHILE MOVING, when I issue the final attack order, they obviously get out of Holding fire and once more attack the target they were facing.

I am a Rhino, and I will keep attacking that 40/50 HP tank while that lone 10/15 HP arty is devastating your defenses/army.
I am a NLOS-C/ATACMS/Koal and i will deliver all my load on that lone infantry/scout while a tank blob is 5 meters behind.
Well, you know the story. But I still love F-35 tickling buildings instead of attacking vehis.

Not really sure I want to see what new stances would look like after the joke that is 'hold fire' but I would be nice if, when I click a target, all my selected units drop everything, stop shooting, and focus only on moving into range and killing the target I clicked.

We talked about these things many times during months of waiting for words on Reboot edition, it is super sad this was also not fixed for it. Seems all UI (I consider this part of UI) and easy of life needed fixes were ignored.
They are as much part of a well made and polished game people want to play as is the game itself
