The division was formed in the West, yes, but that doesn't mean the soldiers (re)assigned to it didn't fight in the East.

Then why are they equipped with the PPsH? Purely comesetic, perhaps, but shouldnt the whole squad just be equipped with MP40s, especially if it was formed in 1943?

Very many German units on the Eastern Front picked up PPSH guns to supplement their automatic weapons collection or even replace the bolt actions. Its not unlikely that they were brought along with the veterans and were employed during the fighting in the West.

Equipment shortages leading to the Nazis using whatever's on hand or bringing their gear with them. As Markenzwieback pointed out, PPSh-41 were quite popular with German forces for a lack of their own automatics, particularly in hells like Stalingrad. The Reich was very much a scavenger, grabbing whatever it could get its grubby paws on and putting it to use.

The Germans loved the PPSh, and made extensive usage of captured ones. They captured enough that they took to re-chambering them for 9mm parabellum. Supposedly the stock PPSh could use the 7.63x25mm mauser pistol cartridge without re-chambering, being extremely similar to the Soviet 7.62x25mm pistol cartridge.

Not arguing that the Germans didn't pick up the PPsh-14 in the Eastern front, where it was readily available or that some of the Ost-truppen in Normandy were equipped with soviet equipment. I mean, do we actually have proper source material that the 17.SS specifically had units with large amounts of soviet equipment, when the Italian Beretta 38/42 was more common? (also point that the several source material shows the 12.SS in Italian camouflage). What's the source material that says "stosstrupps" existed in the 17.SS, or is just a fictional gameplay unit for the sake of flavor?

Rule of cool then.

Apparently they originally designed "stosstrupps" for the 352nd. 17ss just borrowed the unit for some infantry variety. Well, they could have done a version with Italian guns though.
