The one here who have been following the thread where I asked Hulor some help might be aware that I'm modeling a Maus and plan to make it the first unit mod.
The tests being mostly over, I will now finish the mode.
So I will share the status of the modeling.
This model is as you can see quite different from historical photographs and depiction of the Maus in games such as World of Tank are Wart Thunder.
The photographs show the Maus prototypes, so not fitted for combat so without any way of doing field repairs or even accessing the tank without a provided ladder.
- First the ladder that can be seen on the photographs is definitely too big and cumbersome to be transported and used in combat, so I made a foldable ladder hooked up at the rear of the tank (sure it's over-engineered but that's what German did, right ?) on either side of the fuel tank. (you might wonder why I didn't put a welded ladder on one side, it's not because it would allow enemy infatry to climb the tank easily, the Maus is screwed anyway if infantry gets that close, ie. look at Ferdinands, it's because it would widden the tank, and it's already very wide, and it would loose it's ability to be rail transported which would not be clever at all)
Then there is special jack that was made for the Maus has to be transported somwhere, so you can see it's base on the right of the turret held in place by hooks (that are also present on the other side of the turret), the same goes for the actual jack which is stored at the rear of the turret on either side.
Finally, I've also added seven metal ramps welded on the side of the turret allowing movements all around the tank whatever the angle between the turret and hull.
Not much is lacking, some fine detailing such as the detachable winch for track replacement operation or a welded ladder on the side of the turret to access its roof, and maybe a remote controlled MG42 on the roof (the same as the Hetzer's).
I hope you like it !
