What is the point of B or C class divisions if they are confirmed not to be in the campaign?

Postby Destraex » Thu 30 May 2019 14:47

Why would anyone bother to play B or C in a multiplayer skirmish? Why would everybody not play A?
Eugen have confirmed that the skirmish divisions are not the same ones that will be in the campaign. Where B and C would be more useful.

Is it perhaps that the B and C class divisions are specialised and can be as good as A class divisions in skilled hands... so in other words they are just more technically complex to use for new players? But are still balanced to win?

More like B and C divisions have major deficiencies in A and/or B forcing them into a defensive mode early, offensive mode later.

Just found this video. I did not know that the dovision rating was just an offensive cspability rating.

First of all, SP & MP divisions are completely unrelated.
You've got SP divisions which aren't in MP, and the opposite is also true.

For flavor? Diversity? Fun?
We could have listed and implemented just armored/A divisions, it would have been easier for us, and they would have been mostly identical.

i.e. 4th Panzer (which is featured in SP) is the copycat of the 5th, but with Tigers replaced by Luchs. The remaining 95+% are the same.
Same for the Soviets, we could have featured the 1st Guards Tank Corps & 9th Tank Corps as copycats of the 2nd Guards & 29th Tank Corps.

We have proposed divisions for every style playstyle, with as much diversity of units as we could. Besides, C divisions are best used in defense in Breakthrough.

It will be interesting to see what competitive players use.
I like that we have A B and C divisions though.

It could mean that effectively only 3 divisions on each side are played with for tournaments.
However the campaign should more than make up for it along with the DLC sides.

Is it just me or does it feel like the Gruppa Tyurina and Gruppa Bezuglogo are like the strongest Soviet Divisions so I don't see this problem. For Axis Jaeger and 14th Inf are also quite good.

There will be a lot of people who will mostly avoid competitive and prefer to play comp stomp with friends. The less competitive units and divisions will find a welcoming home there.

If say a C division gives you a combination of abilities which gives a strong edge in certain tactics (I think this happened quite a bit with RD) then competitive players will use it. Sorta like both armored and mechanized being strong in RD when Eugen had tweaked the balance for a while.
