King Tiger, Tiger & Panther availability

Postby Ben_D » Mon 14 Oct 2019 11:13

I'm referring more to the game play rather than the historical statistics when I discuss this. Do you guys find that the availability of these tanks is appropriate?

I'm more opinion, there are too many of these tanks. I think the 21. Panzer division should lose one card of King Tigers, therefore making the maximum number it can field down to 4, instead of 8.

The Panzer Lehr and 5. Panzer also have an astounding amount of Panthers (somewhere around a maximum of about 70 Panthers for the Panzer Lehr?). Why has no one called this out? It's crazy.

Soviet numbers make sense to me, given the quality of their units.

Western Divisions also struggle against crazy numbers of these tanks.

It usually comes down to the Allied player needing to be much better than the Axis one in order to win. Equally matched opponents usually see these tanks win the fight, it seems.

(Also posted in Steam forums).

8 KT does seem a bit excessive. They should be special units like the KV2 with very limited availability.

Never had an issue with the panthers because of the ability to field so many IS2's and t34/85s. Plus in games lowers than 3v3, you cannot field so many tanks without sacrificing your artillery and infantry completely. Meaning you most likely gave up swaths of land in order to get that # of tanks out. And by then, its phase C and you have a ton of making up to do.

SD has always struggled with obscene numbers of the big cats for the Germans, and, yes, the numbers for some of the Panzer Divs could do with nerfing.

IIRC, even Madmat said that they were very generous with the amount of Kingtigers that the Lehr got, giving them the full amount they were provided rather than the amount they actually used. (Most were never fielded due to logistical issues, breakdowns and airstrikes. Only two actually ever saw action IIRC).

I does annoy me that the game has a bit of a fetish for the big cats, (Most WW2 games seem to). But I don't think it's entirely the devs fault, they did portray it in a way that only breakthrough divisions really got the best of the best, whilst follow up divisions would do the rest, much like the German doctrine. but because of the way multiplayer works you can just pick entirely the German breakthrough divisions, meaning you get or face nothing but the best of the best in every way.
