Finland DLC is a mess

Postby jonstr » Tue 3 Mar 2020 23:50

Hi,
So what happened during the development of Finland DLC? The game controls were ok before the patch.

1. I have to select auto/manual deploy each round. I do not want auto...
2. Half the time i do not even get to deploy my units until the game started.
3. You can't set attack marker before deploying units, which suck, especially in 10v10.
4. Whats up with these lines? I have to manually remove them in-game each round and they are just in the way.
5. Pressing shift i get ALL my units waypoints and orders, so I have to spend half the time finding out which units im looking at.
6. The mouse marker is always in "attack mode" so im constantly checking my orders.
7. Some new units, but mostly ctrl+c and ctrl+v...
8. And this "hunt/move" stuff... Why make controls for something it's easy to do with the mouse? Now i have to set my "right click" and save it as default to move my units in contact? What's next? The not so "smart commands" were bad enough if you ask me. Next we might as well just watch a war movie.

SD2 is a pretty awesome game, but seriously Eugen, *w-*t-*f-?
You would be better off creating some new maps and leaving the rest alone.

And you still have not fixed the issue where the menu for selecting battlegroup disappears if someone leaves or joins a server. Did the QA even play this game?

Took me 1 game to get use to. I like the lines staying there, reminds me where i am deploying during longer deployment times. Its a pretty simple click on the bottom right to remove the lines.

I do agree it felt wonky at first, i don't like not being able to ping the defense or attack pings in the beginning without selecting units.

But i would not go as far as saying FINLAND DLC A MESS. Just takes some getting use to, a hotfix can quickly iron out the small bugs.

Maybe pay attention to all the new units? New Maps? Pretty decent balancing and patch notes?

Well, i'm not sure which level you are. But if you can't remember where you are deploying...
The RoE i set in options doesnt seem to be active in gameplay. And i have to click the remove lines button. Then i have to change my RoE on my units i already deployed if i forgot to do it first. And i think my fighter was impacted by these settings because it happened twice it won't fire!

Seems everyone in-game think these new controls are shit, and so does everybody i talk to on discord. At least give us an option to select "new" or "old" controls.

I think you're too harsh, really.

The stuff you mention there are either design featured (manual deploy vs auto deploy, lines) or small bugs that can be solved with a patch.

The only thing that bothers me is lack of shooting line.

This HP comes with an excellent balancing package, add 6 new divisions with new features (raiders) or units/weapons, a spectacular campaign, maps etc. No way a mess, just some small issues that can be fixed with a small patch

I will sadly have to agree. Most of the settings are useless because the game seems to ignore them anyways -like turning off winchester auto-evac from the menu settings does absolutely nothing and you have to activate it/deactivate it everytime you enter a game- as a result, I still have "hunt" and not "move" as a "rule of engagement" every game, despite having changed it multiple times.
I would have prefered the "rules of engagement" system to be something you can activate/deactivate at will, and not be forced to use a broken mechanic. Along with the arrows that don't want to dissapear (I would much rather use shift to see my orders).
I understand the game wanting to hold your hand, but there was nothing wrong with the old gameplay.
