Glitchy graphics on Linux

Postby lolwtfh4x » Fri 1 Mar 2013 23:58

The graphics flicker a lot and make the game completely unenjoyable. I just bought it today on Steam and changing graphics options has no effect.
Here's a video I recorded so you can see what's happening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhGs-uKrfnM
Is there any way I can fix this or do I need to wait for an update?

Computer specs:
System76 Gazelle Professional
OS: Ubuntu 12.10 64bit
CPU: 2.4GHz i7
RAM: 16GBs
GPU: Intel HD 4000

Kernel:
Linux hurr 3.5.0-25-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 25 18:26:58 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0

configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
resources: irq:45 memory:f7800000-f7bfffff memory:e0000000-efffffff ioport:f000(size=64)

Let me know if you need any other info, logs, etc.

I think that is your reason. :(

Have you checked that after launching a game, you jump to virtual console and back?

1. Start game and launch mission (etc)
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to jump virtual console
3. Press Cltr+Alt+F7 to jump back to X

Reason might be so simple as that GPU does not get flushed its cache correctly.

Did you as well try to launch game when being in other graphical user interface than Unity (I assume you are using that)?

I just tried switching to a virtual console but it had no effect.

I also suspected Unity so I tried launching the game from XFCE with compositing disabled. No change. XFCE is what I'm using in the video.

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know we are working on that, it's a bug we only have on HD4000 so far, we are trying to see what is causing it.

Definitely appears to be an issues specific to the HD4000. In this thread there are 3 people (including me) all using HD4000's having the same graphical issues as you've shown here.

Glad to hear the issue is being worked on! I've been eagerly waiting to play.

Hello,

I am happy to tell you that in the patch we just released (containing a load of balance changes), I squeezed in a workaround for this bug. The game should run fine on HD4000 now.

That was fast :)
I just checked and the game is working perfectly now.
Thanks.
