linux 3D graphics slow with nvidia GTX680

Postby darkeye » Thu 7 Mar 2013 13:57

Hi,

I'm trying to play Wargame European Escalation on an Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit machine, with an nvidia GTX680 card. with this card, the 3D graphics in the game are extremely slow, the settings autodetect will set the game to the lowest setttings. when higher settings are used, there is a lot of flickering to be seen.

interestingly, the game worked quite well with a GTX465 (I've just upgraded my graphics card recently)

I've tried with the latest driver, 310.14

other OpenGL apps run fine, like Google Earth, X-Plane, etc.

I wonder what is wrong.

Forgive me for I am not a Linux geek, but have you tried to manually set your video options in WEE? DX11 and Very High should work.

manually to high or very high & OpenGL (no DX on Linux) - no it doesn't work, it will scale back, and still there is a lot of flickering

Roll back to older Nvidia drivers? Doesn't make sense, I know. But....desperate times call for......

I started with the 'stable' driver, and then upgraded to 'testing', in both cases the result is the same :(

My latest Nvidia drivers show as 311.06 as of 3 Feb., 2013. Not that it means anything in your case.

so far I've only tried the drivers that come as ubuntu packages.

but now I also downloaded the newest ones from nvidia tried latest stable 310.32 and latest beta 313.09, but the results are the same

another effect is for example that if I log in at the beginning of the game, my steam avatar image and the in-game 'helmet soldier' image on the top right corner is constantly flickering. I see similar flickers within the game as well :(

Sounds like a Steam problem? Are any of those other games played thru Steam?
