Hi all,
As noticed in WEE, the great drawback of SAMs is the lack proper radar dedicated vehicle.
As you may now in real life, SAMs batteries are composed with many vehicles -the launchers are just then end part of the chain.
I would love to see some improved SAM batteries. SAM would then divide in two categories
• autonomous systems, such as
- Avengers
- Buk (SA-11/SA-17, they have a radar included in their launchers)
- Tunguskas
- Roland/Rapiers
- MANPADS
- etc..
They would be able to get deployed alone (plus log obviously)
• heavy SAM systems such as
- Kub (SA-6)
- Hawks MIM-23
- etc..
My idea (and not only mine i guess) is that every "heavy SAM" would consist in two vehicles: a FCR (Fire Control Radar) and the launcher itself. Every launcher of the same type would be linked to a network of one or more radars along the map.
Obviously if all the radars are destroyed (ARM missiles would target radars only), launchers are harmless.
Per example: KUB SAM system would consist in two deployable 1S91 radar vehicles and 6 2P25 launchers.
What do you think ?

Re: SAMs - please incluse radar vehicles !
not going to happen, it has been stated several times.

Even with simplified systems ? I'm not asking for complete batteries (10+ vehicles for Hawks) but the fact that an operational launcher would require the presence of at least one FCR.

nope, only individual units that can operate independently in the game (if not in real life).
No articulated vehicles, no towed vehicles. and no independent radars.

Great idea but like Orcbuster said it's not going to happen, unfortunately. You will just have to use vulnerable recon units to spot incoming aircraft.

Re: SAMs - ideas more more realism
But (sorry for being coriaceous
) isn't it possible to inspire of command vehicles ? e.g a CV in a zone triggers the ability to call reinforcements - by the same way, the presence of FCR would allow TELs to fire (even if no LOS from the radar).

if the answer is a final no, then too bad. i have tried

Alternatively you can assume/pretend that the radars for the batteries are located outside of the map and the units you are controllingare guided from there.

Just on the other side of that intervening mountain range?

Re: SAMs - ideas more more realism
Well I don't know how it could work but something like an AA recon unit would be fun to setup.
