If you're not spotting the garrisoned infantry for tanks/ifvs to fling HE at when assaulting towns, you're doing it wrong.
There are quite a few armoured vehicles with AA missiles and guns in game.

Your sarcasm is weak.
My point is that garrisoning buildings is the only way for infantry to be an effective fighting force at the moment.
Outside the are spotted instantly and crushed and in even forests which is their ace type terrain they are worthless.

Lack of imagination on your part, then.

I have ambushed high value vehicles from the forests on several occasions. Plus, infantry can play a big role on any terrain in a close-quarters battle where the enemy's big hitting units are distracted - I have followed up tanks with infantry in a sort of panzergrenadier style, with smoke and artillery cover - the result was my infantry could close the distance in to cover and push my line of defense all the way up in to my enemy's face.

Infantry does need to get the first shot off to be effective, though. A squad can be gibbed if the enemy tank sees it first in a forest - but where it's the other way around, I just as often see the infantry win out.

the problem is that even in forests where they are supposed to be on their best they never do their job nearly as good as they ever did in EE. the lack of anti tank grenades combined with a long wait for a relatively useless rocket launcer makes inf useless in comparison to its EE counterpart. i understand you can garrison towns, however this is easily countered by even small amounts of mortarfire before a push by your own infantery or even flamethrowing veiechles. even tanks can push out inf from cities with the help of some air or mortar support for gods sake.

as i see it the only infantery to ever buy is AA and long range AT, only for their price though.
