Off map fire support AKA Cruise Missile Assests

Postby Markus Barak » Thu 9 May 2013 19:35

Did some digging and time fram avalibility of certain cruise missiles and found a great many *at least on the US side* They could be treated as suicide plane assests that can be used as one time massive HE strikes against targets. A few of the missiles I found below.

The AGM-86 ALCM

Range 1500+ miles
up to 3000pounds of explosives
speed 550
Production began in 1980

AGM-129 ACM
2000nm
Could hold Tac Nuke but also conv explosives
speed 500
Produced in 1985

Cannot forget the
Tomahawk
early models 900 later models well over 1000
1000pounds of HE or cluster munitions
Speed 550
In service 1983

Left out the Harpoon range was less that 100nm could be carried by heavy air assests.

I am sure there are PACT equivs that could be used as well. You can still shoot them down but it would be very difficult. Maybe you can make sight on target a HUGE factor or add in some form of laser designator to certain scout units to prevent abuse.

These are designed to take out fixed structures and strategic assets, or large warships, not individual tanks moving on a fluid battlefield. Not really in the game scope.

This would ruin battles, among other things.

Make B57s and B43s available to pre-1975 decks. F-4s, A-4s, A-7s, F-104s, CF-104s, etc. all get nuclear attack variants for destroying resisting enemy tank/infantry companies. WARPAC gets their equivalent nuclear strike planes.

Rushing stops. Forever.

2v2 on 10v10 sized maps, with company sized elements being the largest formations massed before tactical atomic weapons become a serious threat. We can also have M-388 MUTT with Davy Crockett nuclear rifles and MGR-1 Honest Johns on M113 chassis for long-range nuclear rocketing.

Game evolves to a higher plane of platoon-level combat across a regimental frontage.

this would be hilarious as a mod/mode. Kind of like a 6000pt hells highway. I think RUSE had a nuke mode too.

"1970's mode" where tactical nuclear weapons are the primary weapons of both sides~

Game would be perfect. Eugen could just patch it to run on 128-bit quantum computers in 20 years. No need to develop any other games because this would break the Internet with so many sales. o:

You could in the 1950's-1970's, tbf.

Gen. Ridgway would let it happen~

Sov LR Radar:

"Cruise missiles inbound!"

Sov Commander:

"Kremlin? Cruise missiles inbound!"

Kremlin:

"Nuclear release authorised!"

NORAD Command:

"Oh f***..."
A Firefly killed Wittman...

It's a 17lbr, not a 76.2mm.
