Flying outside the map

Postby orapier » Thu 16 May 2013 21:57

I don't know if anyone else has encountered it, but a few people have found that with large enough planes, they can fly around the black section of the map where no recon can spot them. Then they fly to your spawn, and drop bombs on common places to keep a command vehicle. Normally there are multiple planes in these attacks, so the bombs are super effective. I know that a few people would like to argue that in real life, there are no designated battle zones for planes, and that this is an effective strategy instead of a way of breaking the game, but if this area was meant to be traversed, I'm sure the developers would have allowed all units to move throughout this area. I just think that no unit should be allowed to traverse a part of the map that isn't there.

My F-117 flies directly over your AA to base to bomb CV in base. No need to fiddle with "out of map:flying. Seems like somebody is doing all that extra work for nothing...

Plus this has already been discussed, don't remember what final verdict was...

And your suggestion is...? Let the planes crush against a imaginary wall, go down and burn for a nice fire?
Usually this shouldnt be a to big problem, the reasons are easy:
1. DONT PLACE YOUR CV AT THE USUAL PLACES - there is no more unstopable helispam and the arti is even more accurate now. So why place the CV in the forrest at the spawnpoint?
2. You should acutally notice it some time and be able to handle it, these planes are in such cases usually not so strong in air-to-air capabilitys and so you should be able to kill them with your own airforce without high risk or a few anti-air-rockets sended from groundforces.

you can spot them with recon helos at the edge of the maps

but i'm mixed about this.
NEXT TIME I SEE A DAMN FLAMEWAR INVOLVING DARTH-LAMPSHADE, FROSTPOOKY, LONERIFLE, FADE2GRAY, TROTSKYGRAD AND/OR ANYONE INVOLVED IN A DISCUSSION BETWEEN THEM I'M GOING TO HAND OUT BANS TO ANYONE USING ANYTHING LOOKING REMOTELY LIKE AN AD-HOMINEM

So now I have to get 2 extra rec helicopters and put them on the side of the map just in case someone wants to exploit the "The map is a table" aesthetic? The solution is simple, just don't let me order a unit of the side of the map. If it goes over circling around the periphery then fine... leave it at that.

I regulary use this tactic and it is indeed effective against unprepared enemys. But it is essentialy a one trick pony as most opponents will invest in alot of AA at base after the strike, which might let the second strike be the demise of your airforce. It is also a micromanagement chore as you have no waypoints for planes and most a near bingo fuel after the flanking maneuver.

Lies, I've tried that like 100 times, and not one of my F-117s made it out alive. So trading 1 F-117 for 1 jeep CV is stupid, plus most of the time it get's shot down before losing it's bomb.

F-117 won't be spotted until it drops its payload, so if you try to get those on front-line, with AA brimming all over then its your own fault, but generally CV's back in Spawn zone rarely have more than 1 igla next to it which is not enough...

Won't be spotted before dropping payload? I guess all the times I lost it before dropping the payload was just a malfunction of the controls in the plane.
