How many people play 10v10?

Postby Uncle_Joe » Fri 19 Jul 2013 19:17

I keep seeing reference in various threads to "10v10 is just a gimmick" or "10v10 isn't the real way to play" or "10v10 is just for noobs" etc etc etc.

I'm actually very curious what the ratio of 10v10 players to 'regular' players is online these days.

Anecdotally, it looks like an awful lot of people are playing 10v10. I'm sure Eugen has those numbers somewhere but as a random sampling, how many players here play 10v10?

I myself rarely bothered with it until recently. I have no interest in 'ranked' gameplay and trying to get econ games that aren't too defensive in 2v2 and 3v3 takes quite a while. So I now play 10v10 a lot more than I ever thought I would. And actually ECON 10v10 can be a pretty good experience.

I'm asking this because it seems that 10v10 has become more than just a gimmick for noobs etc. If that be the case, then it would behoove Eugen to continue to refine and expand that type of gameplay (ie, different maps and gameplay modes).

For my .02 suggestion, they should release a few more 10v10 maps that don't have such a high density of deployment zones and plateaus. That right there could help transform the game into a bit more of a enjoyable and balanced game experience.

10v10 seems to be a significant part of the game currently. More resources and thought should be devoted to supporting it and balancing for it.

I sometimes play 10v10, especially if I need to test a deck with human players. It's a different experience from 2v2, which is a different experience from 4v4. I think it's not for noobs, nevertheless is it a good way to start playing multi, in my humble opinion.

OP you will find that what people moan about on the forums and what the majority do in game are entirely different.

Eugen knows the hard numbers but im willing to bet far more people play 10v10 than any other game mode. They should work on a conquest for 10v10 and improve it further IMO because its what most people seem to play and the only problem with it is campyness. As for the "10v10 is for noobs" or "its not meant to be played like that" types, those people are elitist morons and shouldn't be paid any attention to.

This is a video game, games are for fun, people will play it the way that is most fun for them, simple as that.

I pretty much only play 10v10.

I'm a little afraid of the community to play smaller matches and get blamed at for sucking.

The new conquest mode won't be available for 10vs10?

10v10 is a great way to learn the ropes. I know when I started playing some players would join in, get some planes and then just watch others play the ground game. Not advocating this en masse, as that kinda ruins a 10v10 side, but I'm more than happy to carry the weight of a weaker 10v10 player so long as they don't throw do plans that would be universally regarded as bad (i.e. sending helicopters into a wall of AA, or driving tanks on roads into a well-secured mass of enemy tanks and ATGMs).

As long as the player breaks in the -1000 difference between kills and losses, I normally make enough points to cover for the person's mistakes (I usually hit +2K to 3K range) with us still getting a victory.

Also, players need to ask questions if they're not sure! I was defending the southern hill on the eastern point with T-72s (literally on that incline) and watched as 203mm artillery drove past me onto the top of the enemy-controlled point. After clearing up that he was new and just didn't know where to put them, I covered his artillery until it went back under the hill and he managed to get some mileage out of them before they were inevitably counter-batteried to pieces.

Additionally, due to the large amounts of players, even though the map is huge, there's usually only 3 or 4 flashpoints. If a new player needs assistance, players will often deploy support in droves. Watching the center-line points request help, and then 30 tank and infantry deployment icons deploy is quite reassuring.

Snapshot: right now there are like 1200 people online, and like 180 playing 10v10, and 17 ranked game going (34 people max).
