A small list of suggestions to enhance gameplay.

Postby Zloba » Sat 17 Aug 2013 22:20

Some of these things may require engine changes so for Wargame 3? There should be an official sticky wishlist, IMHO.

1. Tank riding soviet infantry. This has been suggested already.
2. Artillery foxholes should give stealth bonus similar to hedges, etc.
3. Motostrelki and like should be able to fire rpgs at helicopters.
4. Soviet tank barrel launched atgms should be able to engage helicopters, as irl.
5. Accuracy of mig-31/Ka-52 increased when more than one unit deployed, as irl.
6. Criticals for infantry, for instance "weapon jammed" for m16.

A global morale system/counter that goes down as your units are killed, once it reaches a certain threshold
the maximum morale level of all your units permanently decreased one notch. This will discourage/blanace use of supply trucks as scouts or "suicide" planes.

He is not saying that NATO and US shouldnt get new stuff aswell. Hes just comeing up with some stuff that exists in real life and would proberly improve onces gaming experince.

Its not a crime only to have knowledge about one side, and how their stuff worked - Its not uncommon either.

I think Zloba, the host of this thread whould welcome stuff for NATOs side in this post aswell :)

In the realism department, TOWs would also be used against helis - so strictly speaking this wouldnt go for just PACT ;)

1. Tank riding soviet infantry. This has been suggested already. won't happen
2. Artillery foxholes should give stealth bonus similar to hedges, etc. Engine can't handle that
3. Motostrelki and like should be able to fire rpgs at helicopters. Fair enough
4. Soviet tank barrel launched atgms should be able to engage helicopters, as irl. pretty sure this was deliberatly not put into the game as it would encompass all ATGMs
5. Accuracy of mig-31/Ka-52 increased when more than one unit deployed, as irl. Not gonna happen, just as we don't get to paint a target for the F-117 for greater acc
6. Criticals for infantry, for instance "weapon jammed" sure, Why not

Remember, major gameplay mechanics changes won't happen at this point.

Why would infantry need to ride tanks when (based on the current model) they come with carriers? Tankers generally don't want infantry riding on their tanks for a number of reasons..1. They fall off; 2. Tank mobility is decreased; 3. You can't turn the turret or fire the guns; 4. They steal the tankers' gear in the carry boxes on the outside of the tank; 5. Grunts are a lower class of citizen, and tankers aren't their taxi service (from the tanker's perspective).

Foxholes...In the time it takes to dig an effective fighting pit, the game would be well and truly over. Depending on the ground, even an 18 inch deep shellscrape takes significant time. The game/s represent 'meeting engagements', not assaults on prepared positions.

Firing RPG's at helo is a pretty desperate action necessitated by a lack of dedicated AA weapon systems. It's not the sort of thing that is reflected in doctrine.

Weapon jams for infantry small arms? To clear a rifle jam takes less time (or as much time) as it does to change a magazine...it's not a critical issue for a section or squad of infantry.
A Firefly killed Wittman...

It's a 17lbr, not a 76.2mm.

I think we're all aware that in terms of engine and UI, Eugen consider ALB to be complete. However, I do hope they're reading these threads and maybe taking a few ideas from them for the next game.

In general, I really wish there could be more synergy between units that worked best together in real life. That little camera ball on top of the Kiowa's rotors? Contains target acquisition and laser designation equipment to guide an Apache's Hellfire missiles. The Striker could be left unmanned behind a hill and fired/guided by detached infantry with LOS on target. In the First Gulf, Buccaneers lased targets with their Pave Spike pods for Tornados carrying LGBs. That kind of thing.

"EUG time" defies quantum physics. We are evolving in a completely different set of time where durations are only qualified as "soon", "imminent", "about to happen", ...

Would like such improvements to gameplay, maybe we could make a full list of things (HATO and Pact) that would be interesting to be included.
Firing of Barrel launched ATGMs for example.
More realistic ranges (for most of the things, 30 km or 35 km Buk is not fun).
Realistic Penetration values for missles (IIRC BTR had a good thread on that, or was it tank balance? High possible of be beeing wrong (it is late here))
and more realistic weapon loadouts (looking at Ka-50)

Return to “Wargame : AirLand Battle”
