What are the rules for modding?

Postby orapier » Fri 27 Sep 2013 00:48

As someone who is deathly afraid of change and mods, I was wondering, what are the official rules of modding? I remember reading that it was against rules for ranked games, but I have yet to read anything about public games? Are these things only happening in private lobbies? Is it possible to even host a game with a mod?

Now that I see that the devs have softened their view, I just want to stay in the know without delving into the dozens of pages in threads of modding this and modding that.

mods are fine as long as they don't interfere with normal play, aka you cant join a normal game while the mod is active or it will be considered cheating

Moded games can't see normal games.

As long as you don't use the mod to play in normal games; if you're installing your mod and using it correctly you won't be using it with the current Patch Release of ALB.

Eugen doesn't care as long as you don't cheat. You can play online with mods, just not with others who aren't using the mod or it's cheating just like any other hack or cheat.

Be carefull with such uneducated statements. That's simply not true. Additionally, we do know almost everything we have to know. Even if you join a lobby with modded data, all game depended data will be checked between all players, and if one has modified data, he will be recognized as a cheater and the game will desync for him.

So If you do it, it wont work and additionally Eugen might get a small hint from that your account tried to cheat. Don't do it.

does it mean that if me and my friend run a private game with the same mod, the look will recognize it as "the same version" and not "desync" us ?
