Why does the Bushmaster get 3 AP and not the 2A72?

Postby bobjoeharris » Wed 19 Feb 2014 20:49

From my knowledge, these guns have pretty comparable penetration, so why does the M2A1 get special treatment? and why can't stuff like the BMP-3 have ap3?

feel free to correct me if i am completely wrong

I can't see why they both shouldn't be at 2AV considering the Bofors 40mm cannon has 3AV.

the bofors has way better kinetic performance than the 25mm bushmaster, if the uber bradley gets 3 ap then the 40mm L70 should get an across the board 4ap at 1925.

Probably due to OP'ness...and increase in cost, perhaps.

That said though, while you are likely to come across reasonably large numbers of BMP3, it's not that common to come across comparitive numbers of Bradley...which sort of skews the impact of that higher AP value.
A Firefly killed Wittman...

It's a 17lbr, not a 76.2mm.

To use Drang's catchphrase, "lolwut?"

The more expensive BMP-3 is far less likely to be seen in numbers than the Bradley, especially since the Soviets have plenty of cheap IFV options for volleying ATGMs at the enemy.

it uses the same ammo as the 2A42 which was lacklustre.
NEXT TIME I SEE A DAMN FLAMEWAR INVOLVING DARTH-LAMPSHADE, FROSTPOOKY, LONERIFLE, FADE2GRAY, TROTSKYGRAD AND/OR ANYONE INVOLVED IN A DISCUSSION BETWEEN THEM I'M GOING TO HAND OUT BANS TO ANYONE USING ANYTHING LOOKING REMOTELY LIKE AN AD-HOMINEM

You would be incorrect. The 25mm Bushmaster sported by the Bradley family of fighting vehicles is vastly superior to the 30mm 2A72, primarily due to the type of ammunition used to fight armored vehicles.

The Bushmaster can fire both the M791 and M919 cartridges, which are APDS and APFSDS projectiles with tungsten penetrators respectively. The M791 APDS-T has similar penetration performance to the 3UBR8 (also an APDS projectile) fired by the 2A72. but is superior to the 3UBR6 also fired by the 2A72. However, the M919 APFSDS is vastly superior to both the 3UBR6 and 3UBR8.

Important note for the Wargame universe: While the M919 wins this debate and the M791 is similar to the 3UBR8, the M919 and 3UBR8 are products of the 90's and therefore shouldn't exist in ALB. Without providing any information that you can't find on the internet, the M791 has a 25mm RHa value @ 60 degree impact at 1300m, while the 3UBR6 AP-T has a 20mm RHa value @ 60 degree impact at 700m.

Okay you lost me. Which gun number goes with which ammo number goes with which vehicle number again?

In case this was genuine, and not sarcasm

Bushmaster - NATO - M791 & M919

2A72 - PACT - 3UBR6 & 3UBR8

Again, the M919 and 3UBR8 do not exist in the ALB universe.

I think the 3AP Bushmaster on the M2A1 and M3A1 are representing new ammo. Note the fact that the Bushmaster on the M2 and LAV-25 have 2AP.
