Co-op Campaign: "Wargame is encountering problems with the following player..."

Postby Istari6 » Tue 1 Nov 2016 19:39

First, I'm a huge fan of the Wargame series. Have 142 hours in Wargame Airland Battle and even more in WRD.

I've recently introduced my friend to the game, he purchased a copy so we could play the co-op campaign together.

Unfortunately, we keep running into a recurring problem:

After a few Days in the campaign (I'm the host), I'll start seeing "Wargame is encountering problems with the following player: [My Friend]" on loading the initial battle screen. Meanwhile, my friend is stuck in the loading screens and never sees the battle screen load.

No matter how long we wait, the issue never resolves without shutting down. Once we start getting this error message, the campaign is stuck. It occurs everytime we reload that save. We've even gone back a day or two and tried to play forwards, but we always get this issue.

We're now on our third attempt at Fortress Oslo and just hit the issue on Day 2.

We love the game but don't want to play through a 4th time only to hit this issue again. Is it possible to resolve this issue on our current campaign? Or is it possible to fix so we won't be affected if we restart again?

Of note, this has happened to us with me trying to host campaigns on multiple computers (a PC for first two attempts, a Mac for last). My friend is using the same laptop for all our attempts.

We have been playing a multiplayer campaign (NOT co-op, one playing as PACT and other as NATO) and have had the same issues.

We have been trying many things to diagnose the issue.

We have found that one item that seemed to be a common cause is my CPU was overheating (85+ degrees Celsius).

Since I cleaned my PC with some compressed air, the temps have been from 30 to 45 deg Celsius and has been OK until more recently where we are having issues again.

Some recent issues seemed to also be occurring when I had poor internet connectivity (I had to revert to a wireless broadband connection which was not great, and once again saw the issues).

The issues have always been consistently at my end. We have tried using both wireless and wired connections (don't seem to find any pattern here, unless on a poor broadband connection).

I also noticed that when I was using a Surface Pro 2 that we also experienced the same issues (maybe due to incompatible graphics hardware?), most of the time I have the system listed below.

I have also tried switching between Linux mint 17.3 and my Windows 7 (setup via dual boot) - most of the time the result is the same.

The issue only ever happens on loading a battle, never in the middle of it and only on some battles. We have played the ZHUKOV-2 and War in the North campaign - both with the same issues.
