Damn the arty spammers

Postby RamboJnr » Sun 12 Feb 2012 21:17

I dont know if it is a new trend but recently i played against a lot of arty spammers. This guys just kill the game before it even started and turn it in to a pissing contest. It happens mostly on the high point maps where player can afford to buy enough arty units to suppress any enemy activity before he (or she 8-) ) even left his base.
Would it be possible to limit arty range so it didnt go from one end of the map to the other?
If somebody comes up with another idea how to fight those f***ers I would be most gratefull :ugeek:

Its not so easy when u have the whole map to go through being shelled by large calibre arty and smerch rockets before u get there ur tanks are in pieces and helis come across heavy aa fire.
I try to diversify my units so i never have enough helis to wipe out those buggers

I`m still having trouble understanding how a 155mm artillery shell will do anything more than detrack a tank or knock the crew around...

if the SPG's are the main target, then Special forces insertions can work well. Depending on the arty type, either counter-battery or the special forces themselves can destroy the arty under good conditions. If not, you'll at least have eyes-on the area and hopefully be able to spot any defenders that are vulnerable.

Yeah, wait til you see a 227mm MLRS rocket hit a tank dead on :P I've still got trouble understanding it, and it was 2 days ago!

With great arty comes great expense... and supply needs. Arty is only really effective if the enemy:
1) Knows where your units are
2) Your units are clumped enough for them to be an easy target
3) You sit there as he barrages you

Anything else is just expensive random explosions. It's pretty rare I ever lose units from arty fired from the enemy's base. Of course I may be wrong. Best bet is to provide a replay otherwise there's not much we can say other than "you were problably playing badly".
