W:AB - Land units you want

Postby DeuZerre » Thu 16 Aug 2012 13:01

Just to be the first

Discuss what land units (as opposed to Air units since there are other topics about it) you would love to see in game.

I'd love to see a Crotale AA system (French). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crotale_(missile)

Several chassis would be possible, tracked AMX-30s (again, we just love these) and wheeled (Hotchkiss). The Finnish used those too.

Funny thing about the missile is that it actually flies by the target then explodes, throwing the shrapnel behind.

Both of the XM1 prototypes, and two variants of the Leopard 2 prototypes would be cool. :D

Otherwise, there's two things which I'd want for NATO: a SAM system on wheels, and exceptional optics on some ground platform.

And that Bandkanon, that thing would be nuts.

-i´d say... no prototypes at all... but some interpretation of prototypes as final product that would have shown up in the case of war. earlier or at all, other then in reality...

- i want the whole bundeswehr stuff in there.. and properly translated to the game...

- and as units for every party... arty shooting different projectiles..( Fog, HE, Mines etc )
minesweeping units

- bridgelayers

- amphibious units...

- tanks going through rivers setting up snorkels etc

- and i´d really like to have the units be translated ingame keeping the real proportions to each other.. in armor,
speed, etc etc... plz dont sacrifice that for the purpose of balancing... make the balancing by available numbers
and costs only plz...

Leopard Lines, Marder, Fuchs, Luchs, Wolf, Büffel, 5to transport, 10to transport, etc, etc, etc

Yeah, no way only 10 deltas would call for a chinook. 40 maybe!

Nerding out on Swedish units here (I think it's pretty much a given that Sweden is in, confirmed now).

Infantry carriers/IFV's
Pansarbandvagn 301 APC (really old and terrible and probably out of scope)
Pansarbandvagn 302 APC (also exists in recon and command versions)

Bandvagn 206 tracked unarmored transport, and its variants, if we're getting mountainous/snow-covered terrain (exists in versions armed with TOW, RBS 56 BILL and Pvpj 1110 recoilless rifle as well)
Bandvagn 308 "Skalman" (aka. Bv 206S) armored version of the above (might be out of scope)
Stridsfordon 90 IFV is probably out of scope even as a prototype, but listing it anyway just for the record

Tanks
Stridsvagn 74 "Sanslös" light tank, mostly as a really cheap gimmick unit, T-34 style
Infanterikanonvagn 91 tank destroyer/light tank
Stridsvagn 103 "S" MBT, of course

Stridsvagn 81/101/102/104/105/106 tanks are just Swedish variants of the British Centurion but it was actually used all the way into the 90's in various modernized versions
Stridsvagn 121/122 are Swedish Leopard 2 variants and are almost definitely out of scope

Support/other vehicles
Bandkanon 1 self-propelled 155mm howitzer, as mentioned above
Pansarvärnsrobotbandvagn 551 armored ATGM (TOW) carrier
Luftvärnsrobotvagn 701 armored AA missile platform (RBS 70), same chassis as the above ATGM carrier
Terrängbil 11/Terrängbil 13 aka. Volvo C303 series unarmored offroad car (basically a big jeep) in a hundred different versions with funky stuff mounted on it (machine guns, AA missiles (RBS70), 90mm recoilless rifles, ATGM's (Bantam/BILL), etc); also its predecessor Personlastterrängbil 903 "Valpen". Exists in recon and command variants as well as several troop transport versions of different sizes.

Infanterikanonvagn 72/102/103 are so obscure I can only find info about them in Swedish. They were tracked open-topped vehicles with a 75mm (later 105mm) gun intended only to fire HE rounds in an infantry support role. Probably out of scope due to being ancient, but they were later rebuilt into the Pansarvärnsrobotbandvagn 551 and Luftvärnsrobotbandvagn 701 mentioned above.

Towed equipment (doesn't really exist as a category in Wargame:EE, but maybe it will in ALB)
Bofors 40mm and 20mm AA autocannons in like five different versions
Haubits 77 155mm howitzer
Pansarvärnspjäs 1110 "Huggpipan" 90mm recoilless rifle that could either be towed with a Terrängbil 11/13 or pulled on a sled behind a pair of skiing rangers (also exists mounted on various vehicles as per above).
RBS 77 Swedish version of the MIM-23 Hawk AA missile system

Logistics
Volvo N86 supply truck
Terrängbil 30/40 offroad supply truck?
Command versions of Pbv 302/Terrängbil 903/Terrängbil 11/13

Sorry for the wall of text.

Infantry:
Mortar/Support infantry
Engineers (mine-layers)
Mountain-warfare specialists (recon w/ more mobility in otherwise impassible terrain)

Recon:
Cougar/Grizzly (Canada Represent!)

MBT:
Centurion (and Swedish variants)
S-Tank

Artillery:
Whatever the Swedish SPG is, I forgot.
Maybe some truck-drawn artillery? trade some mobility and protection for a lower cost?

MISC:
Amphibious FAVs
Engineering vehicles (maybe transports for standard engineers which can clear wrecks/rubble from roads, remove mines, and built temporary bridges at thin spots)
