Destroying fobs

Postby Nick Echo » Sat 25 Oct 2014 23:00

Recently I noticed an increased amount of people that like to destroy FOBs. Extra points/show off artillery/because they can/tryhards trying to get any point they can with their 10 second artillery/whatever. The fact that for some reason FOBs can not be repaired, also does not help. Personally I never destroy FOBs, because making enemy to count every supply point usually leads to them resorting to camping, which means that the game-play becomes very stale.

What I perceive as an issue, is that FOBs can be detected from half a map away without even needing a scout unit (only a slight exaggeration). Majority of starting zones lack enough cover to hide these, and if it is a team game, where almost everyone has at least 1 fob, it becomes impossible. From reality standpoint, these are not FOBs (Forward operation base) but a supply dump. In real life, supply dumps are hidden either in small-ish holes in the ground with camouflage nets, or in artillery resilient bunkers etc. What I propose, is making fobs smaller (easier to hide), and give them good stealth rating (representing the camouflage nets), so enemy couldn't just suicide a transport helicopter and spot at-least one FOB or more. Actual infiltrating scouts would still detect FOBs, while allowing the other player to put measures in place.

What do you guys think?

I don't target them, but I after the wretched, ridiculous mortar spam I just endured, I might just start. Arty spam ruins a lot more games than FOB destruction.

Destroy Fobs once you sight them. Don't let them have their ammunition.

Maybe they could remedy this slightly by giving the FOB 2 armor. That would make it take a bit more to destroy.

75pts, the only reason not to destroy them is if you want to capture them.

Napalm them.

And then watch the rage.

If you can't counter their artillery, counter their supply

An entirely valid tactic. Supply chains are supposed to be an integral tactical part of the game.

The way to avoid this is to put your FOBs in forests (yes, they do seem to hide, but more to do with LoS I think? or prevent the enemy from getting eyes on your FOB/Don't fire your artillery from 30cm away from them.

The only time I find this annoying is on, say, a 10v10 where you've managed to flank the enemy, want to capture their supply to rearm and refuel, and some idiot support player on your own team decides he'd like to totally screw up your chances of maintaining momentum and waste 12,000 points of free supplies...

[edit]: I also wish they wouldn't be auto-captured. Nothing beats a FOB for early warning detection of the infiltrators you just spent 20 minutes micro-managing past the empty transport-helo screen...

FOBs are protected under the Geneva Convention.

I target fobs if I got the arty to do it :P

Hide your fobs deep in forests shouldn't be as easy to see
